It’s funny how things come full circle. The 300 AAC Blackout was design to mimic the performance of Russia’s 7.62×39 in the American AR-15 platform. And here we have Russian-made 300 AAC Blackout ammo, import to America for you to enjoy at the range.
Wolf’s ammunition performs reliably, yet it’s economically price because it utilizes steel in a couple of interesting ways. First is this round’s 145 grain FMJ bullet. It contains only very little copper because its inner layer is made of steel. Apart from its ability to draw a magnet, you’ll notice very little difference between Wolf’s bullet and one made exclusively of lead and copper.
Second is its case. It is made entirely out of steel, because brass contains valuable copper and the name of Wolf’s game is reducing production costs and retail prices. Wolf coats their steel cases with polymer to help them cycle efficiently through a semi-auto, and they’ve improved it over the years to prevent if from singeing off to foul the action.
Wolf’s steel cases are non-reloadable, and their relative inflexibility compared to brass means they’ll likely permit a little more fouling of the action. One thing this ammo is not, however, is corrosive. Wolf’s noncorrosive Berdan primers do not demand additional cleaning.
