- Q & A
The .22LR has a lengthy history. In 1845, the Flobert BB Cap was the front runner for small-caliber rounds, and then Smith and Wesson came up with the .22 in 1857. But it wasn’t until a firearms manufacturer J. Stevens Arms and Tools Company came up with the idea of combining the .22 Long case with the .22 Extra Long 40-grain bullet that the .22LR was finally born in 1887. Among its many appealing factors is its ability to be use not only in rifles but also in some handguns, a quality not many cartridges can claim. Another unique feature is that it uses a heeled bullet, meaning the bullet is the same diameter as the case and has a slightly narrower “heel” enabling it to fit into the case. .22LR is a massively popular caliber, and understandably so.
Of course, if .22LR has a lengthy history, Remington Arms Co. has a legendary one. Founded in 1816 when young Eliphalet Remington set about building his own flintlock rifle, won 2nd place using it in a competition, and was immediately overwhelmed with orders, the company is respected by shooters worldwide. It wasn’t long before they branched out from gunsmithing to manufacturing ammunition, and today you can benefit from their years of experience. They have plants all across America, including Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina; Remington ammunition is always made in America.
These are 36 grain rounds which is right in the middle for .22LR. As always, it’s lightweight and neatly balanced, and it has speed. This ammunition has a muzzle velocity of 1,280 foot pounds, so it’s going to reach its destination fast. Muzzle energy is rated at 131 foot-pounds and these are HP rounds, so they expand on impact rather than over-penetrating and traveling too far. There are 525 rounds in this box, so whether you’re using your .22LR for pest control, plinking, or training a new shooter, you’ll be ready.
